The Edge Brewing Co. experience

Image
My good friend and I went to visit Edge Brewery & Restaurant without knowing anything except they are one of the popular names in the local brewery industry. I have a few compliments and criticisms for Edge Brewing. The Food The menu had a large selection of unique selection of delicious sounding options, such as stuffed mushrooms, street tacos, or the peanut butter bacon burger. We enjoyed a plate of the kettle chip nachos. If you're looking for a good, diverse selection of food, Edge is a great place. The Beer Given Edge is a brewing company, we mainly visited the brewpub for the beer. Although we both only had one off the list , we were satisfied with our choices. My friend is now a big fan the Habanero Lager. If you're looking for good beer, this place is a fine choice. The Atmosphere The atmosphere I enjoy in a brewery can be affected my many factors. It could be the waitstaff, the music, the decor, or even the layout of the taproom itself. Some breweri...

A warm escape on a winter day: Powderhaus

Image
Imagine the feeling you get on a cold winter day and you walk into a cabin and you're greeted by friendly faces and good beer. That's Powderhaus . My friend and I visited on a snowy Saturday afternoon, so the environment was fitting. The walls and furniture are akin to a log cabin making the whole place cozy and welcoming. In the corner friends can lounge on a ski bench or compete at a quick Pop-A-Shot basketball game. We grabbed a couple of seats at the bar and dove right in. We ordered a flight of five beers. Among our samples were the Prusik Pilsner and the Haus Session Ale. Both were delightful. The Prusik is described on their website as "a  true Czech-style Pilsner crafted with a carefully selected lager yeast strain, Idaho-grown Saaz hops and a light, crisp body." It's a new addition to my list of favorite local beers. Each one we sampled was enjoyed to the last drop. One of the notable beers is the Girl Stout (not part of the flight but w...

More to come for the Boise brewery community

Quite a few breweries joined Boise in 2017, but the fun won't stop there. This year, Bear Island Brewing is planning on opening a new brewery in a unique setting, the former Boise Firehouse No. 6. Since they're currently operating out of their two-car garage, this taproom would be an exciting step for their team. According to this article , husband and wife Beth and Steve Bechtel plan to start renovations and open by the end of the year.

Standing out in a growing industry: Boise breweries

An article written in October of 2017 discusses a few of the new breweries to Boise and what makes them unique in this growing beer community. After visiting two of the three listed, I find their uniqueness creates an enjoyable environment. With the brewery list getting longer for Boise, it's vital to stand out and create a memorable experience to keep the customers returning for more.

New kids on the block: White Dog Brewing

Image
Opening their doors to Boise locals in 2017, White Dog Brewing is one of the newer breweries in town. Bringing a variety of beer options for every taste and a unique "frost rail" from Bozeman, Montana, White Dog has made an exciting impression on the Boise beer scene. Their taproom features games, darts, shuffleboard and live music on some nights. The atmosphere is lively and the beer was definitely worth the trip. I recommend trying the delicious blood-orange hefeweizen. I think White Dog is an excellent addition to the growing community of Boise breweries.

Lost Grove is not your average local brewery

Photo from https://www.facebook.com/LostGroveBrewing/. At the heart of Lost Grove Brewing is the driving goals to encourage customers to get lost, to live in the moment, to be present, and enjoy the here and now. The beer is good, but the goodness doesn't stop there. The owners founded this brewery with a vision. The "vision for sustainable environmental practices, socially responsible efforts, and world class beer" is clear in their activities. Throughout their brewing practices they pledge to reduce waste, buy local, and use their brand for good. Their recurring Powerful Pints program raises funds and awareness for local non-profits. Lost Grove works hard to make great beer and to positively impact their local community. Whether you attend one of their Powerful Pints nights, a weekly game of trivia on Thursdays, or live music on Fridays, you'll never have a dull time at Lost Grove Brewing. 10 beers at 10 Barrel Brewing Co.

Image
Famously known for their beer (obviously), delectable menu , and events such as Pray for Snow , it's no surprise 10 Barrel Brewing Co. is a popular destination in downtown Boise. I started this blog to encourage myself to visit new places, but I had to return to an old favorite. 10 Barrel's roots are in Bend, Oregon where three guys decided to join together and start brewing in 2006. Since then, 10 Barrel has grown and expanded across the West. From Portland, Oregon down to San Diego, California and east to Denver, Colorado, their beer is poured near and far. An always rotating beer list makes for a unique trip each time we visit. 10 Barrel offers flights of 10 beers and a choice between Series 1 or Series 2. Each has a different selection, but a guaranteed delight whichever path you take. This visit, my friends and I decided upon Series 2. A group favorite was Goggle Tan, an India Red Ale registering at IBU 55 and ABV 5.6%. According to their menu, "as flavorful a...

Woodland Empire

Image
I dragged a couple of my friends along with me to Woodland Empire, a local brewery established in 2012.  Woodland Empire Ale Craft  was started by h usband and wife team, Rob and Keely Landerman.  Inside the taproom there's a warm glow from the strings of lights over the bar. On one side of the room you can hear cheers and laughter while small groups play on one of the several pinball machines. Our favorite piece in the room was the bar top, crafted from used doors. This tasting room has plenty of unique details weaving together an entertaining environment.  My friends and I decided to order a flight, grab a box of Trivial Pursuit cards and sit at one of the large wooden tables. It was a fairly quiet night, but more people started to trickle in as time went on. We decided to try a variety of whatever the bartender recommended. Some fan favorites were the Moondog Amber  and the Big Sticky Red IPA . We decided not to eat while we were there, but people w...
