A warm escape on a winter day: Powderhaus

Imagine the feeling you get on a cold winter day and you walk into a cabin and you're greeted by friendly faces and good beer. That's Powderhaus.

My friend and I visited on a snowy Saturday afternoon, so the environment was fitting. The walls and furniture are akin to a log cabin making the whole place cozy and welcoming. In the corner friends can lounge on a ski bench or compete at a quick Pop-A-Shot basketball game.

We grabbed a couple of seats at the bar and dove right in. We ordered a flight of five beers. Among our samples were the Prusik Pilsner and the Haus Session Ale. Both were delightful. The Prusik is described on their website as "a true Czech-style Pilsner crafted with a carefully selected lager yeast strain, Idaho-grown Saaz hops and a light, crisp body." It's a new addition to my list of favorite local beers. Each one we sampled was enjoyed to the last drop.

One of the notable beers is the Girl Stout (not part of the flight but we sampled it before ordering). The Girl Stout is comparable to drinking a Thin Mint. I highly recommend at least trying it as a part of the experience, although it is seasonal so take the opportunity if it's available.

Powderhaus is a great space to enjoy time with friends and family. I'm sure it would have been even better if the Taphaus had been more lively. On a given night they'll have live music, local food trucks, and for a warm summer afternoon they offer outdoor seating. Boise natives and visitors should definitely go and experience all Powderhaus has to offer.
